Consortium of Popular Culture Collections in the Midwest
OBERLIN COLLEGE
Oberlin College Library's Special Collections, located in Oberlin, Ohio, houses several 19th and 20th century popular culture collections that document both of the democratization of publishing and readership. Examples of the former include our anti-slavery propaganda, dime novels, gift books and scrapbooks, a collection of Spanish romantic novels, as well as theater playbills, Civil War popular song sheets, and many runs of British and American magazines. Collections from the 20th century include popular song sheet music, pamphlet collections from World War II, the Spanish Civil War, and the American Communist Party. We also have a book collection based around the New Yorker magazine as well as some newly acquired graphic novels and 'zines.
